[MUSIC PLAYING] You're going to learn how to create a well-designed Shopify store in this course. Though right now, I want you to put your branding skills into practice, by creating your coming soon page. A coming soon page is a marketing tactic that will allow you to collect email addresses, engage with your customers before you launch with your store. When you do launch, you'll have an email list ready to go with a list of interested customers. But before I create a coming soon page, I'll first show you how to create a logo and how to buy a domain.
So let's get right into it. In front of me is Shopify's logo generator. First-- let's click Get Started. So in my example, I'm creating phone accessories, fashion accessories. So out of all of the options here, I'm going to go ahead and stick with fashion. Once I'm happy, I'll go ahead and click Next.
From here we can choose our visual style. Now in my example, I'm going to go back into one of my brand pillars and just the characteristics of my brand and stick with natural. So I have natural clicked and then I'm going to go ahead and click Next. From here, I already had this pre-filled. And this is my business name-- the Neutralist. I'm going to leave my slogan out of the picture for the time being but you can totally added if you want to.
So now I have my business name, good to go. I'll go ahead and click Next. So we have a few options of where my logo will be placed-- whether it will be on my online store, social media, print material and more options. But in this case, I'm only sticking with my online store for my logo. From here, I'll click Next. Awesome.
As you can see I've tons of amazing logos generated right in front of me instantly, which is incredible. So from scrolling down, I'm going to go ahead and see, I have this logo in particular right here. The reason why I like it is, it's simple, it's easy to read. It's going to be effective, since I'm dealing with a long horizontal navigation bar. So I'm going to go ahead and click this logo for the Neutrallist.
Once I've gone ahead and clicked it, I'll see that I have options-- change my fonts as well as color. Right now, I'm actually a big fan of the default font that's given me. So I'm going to go ahead and change the color around. So I'll click colors. There's so many options but here we have a select dropdown to help simplify my selection. I'm going to go ahead and stick with natural because that's my brand pillar, that's what's a key identifier for my brands.
So once I click natural, I'll scroll down and right off the bat, I see the exact logo I'm looking for. It fits my color palette. It works really, really nice. And one thing I kind of want to identify with this logo is, what if my logo doesn't contrast well on a black background? This is something that we're going to have to take into consideration with colors and that's contrast. But immediately I've noticed, right to the top left corner I see an almost identical logo with the Neutralist, my text with white text.
And that's going to work perfect for a black background. So right off the bat, I've been able to nail my logo, that I'll be using for my future coming soon page and e-commerce store. So now they have nailed down my logo, it's all about the domain. Let's go ahead and see what domain options I have available for me? So in front of me, I have my Shopify dashboard to choose my domain.
To find the domain, we can either search it at the top of this search bar or in my case, I'll click online store and then click domains. When you are looking to purchase a domain, you'll have to have one of the plan selected in Shopify. So if you don't, you will most likely be notified to select a plan before you choose your domain. In my case, I already have a plan selected and we're good to go.
So I'm going to click buy new domain. In this case, I want to first start off with keeping as simple as possible. So I'm going to search for the Neutralist. There's a good chance, it could be not available but luckily in my case, it actually is. Just a reminder, if your domain isn't available, you can try things like shop or even the word try, before your actual name that you're going to be choosing for your dot com.
So now that's available, I'm going to go ahead and click buy. So the next step is to enter your billing information and you should be good to go from there. So now I've moved forward with my billing information. Definitely keep something in mind-- when you do move forward with purchasing a domain with Shopify, you're most likely going to get additional information sent to your email. So please make sure to check your email after you've made your purchase to configure the remaining steps.
You'll have two options, when creating a password protected page or coming soon page. Option 1-- it's to set up your Shopify password protected page from your ad bin. The password page is a landing page that adds a password protection to your online store. You can create a password and only give it to your customers that you want to be able to visit your store, maybe friends or family that you could use for feedback. Now the second option is a bit more advance and it's to use an app that we've built at Sovi Creative.
My company built an app called coming soon. And it's the easy way to set up your coming soon page and luckily we received really good feedback from the community. The coming soon app works with any Shopify theme you have installed. Anyone who isn't logged into your store will be redirected to your coming soon page. While you or anyone else who is logged in can access your site as normal and not be redirected to coming soon.
This makes it easy for you to edit your site, while other people are engaging with your coming soon page. Cool. So let me give you the example of what the password protected page will look like right off the bat. Here you can see that you have this very clean, very simple password protected page. But if you wanted to take the opportunity to customize it a bit more to be on brand and engage with your customers with more personalized messaging, you can use something like coming soon to be able to communicate effective messaging and add additional widgets like this countdown timing bar as well as enter your email and so much more from there.
So let's go ahead and create your coming soon page. So now we've had a chance to look at the default password protected page, we can jump back to the home page dashboard within Shopify. From there, I'm going to show you how the customized coming soon. So to do so, you're going to want to go ahead and click Apps. Now please keep in mind I've already downloaded this app from the Store but if you ever need to download any future apps, you can easily do so by clicking visit Shopify app store.
Perfect. So we'll go ahead and jump into coming soon. We can see that the app is now activated, meaning-- any people who are not logged in we'll get redirected to the coming soon page. Here, where we can scroll down, we can go ahead and see that we have our default coming soon page up and running but now we want to go ahead and start updating our brand assets to start making it on brand with our current brand guideline.
So first thing I'm going to go ahead and do is just go ahead and click General and we're going to go ahead and update our logo. So I'll click Upload. Perfect. I'm going to be uploading the one with the white text that says the Neutralist, just because we're going to be using a dark overlay background. Perfect.
From there, we're going to go ahead and update our background image. Great. And so let's take a look at where we are so far. I'll scroll down to the Save button or you can click Command save to preview your update so far. Perfect.
So we're almost there. As you can see I talk a little bit about contrast for colors. As you can see right here, the word coming soon and the content below it, doesn't contrast very well with the background image. So what I'm going to go ahead and do is go into the typography portion and we're just going to go ahead and update our font colors. We'll do the same with our linked colors, just leave them all as white just for the sake of simplicity.
Great. So we'll just go ahead and save that. Do a quick preview. And here we can see we already have a coming soon page more or less get to go. Now for this example, I'm going to keep with the bare bones for this coming soon page but right off the bat, we can see as we've included our logo. We've adjusted the colors to make sure that the contrast well with the background and we have all of the information, we're looking to portray to communicate to our clients.
Now typically, I would go ahead and configure the typography for this but luckily the default typography that comes with coming soon is a font family called railway, which is exactly on brand with the fonts I'm using to design my store. We have a coming soon page up in action. It looks great and on brand and we've gone ahead and activated it, meaning-- anyone who's not logged into your store will get redirected to this coming soon page.
And there you have it. This is the exact type of coming soon page, I create for my clients and you can go ahead and create for yourself. Now you can start promoting your coming soon page on social media, leveraging an email newsletter or an event just to go ahead encourage people to sign up to learn more. Now join me in the next module, where you learn how to build your Shopify store.
