[MUSIC PLAYING] Your domain name is your identity on the internet. Setting up your domain is not something you have to do often so it's important you do it properly the first time. So why should you take the time to get a custom domain? There are two reasons why having a custom domain will help you boost your business. Firstly, it contributes to a trustworthy brand that customers become familiar with. Secondly, it helps get your website listed higher on Google when people search for you and your products and services.

You can buy your domain name through Shopify in just a few minutes. Let's walk through this process together. I'm going to show you how to buy a domain name while you're on your desktop computer. From your Shopify admin, click on Online store, and then domains. Click on Buy new domain. In the dialog box, enter the domain name you'd like to purchase.

When you're ready, click buy next to the extension that you'd like to purchase. By default, the Shopify account owner's email and information is used for the purchase. Now, here's the summary of your purchase. Make sure you click on Auto-renew this domain every year if you want your domain to be automatically renewed before it expires. Once you're satisfied with all of the info on this page, and you've read the ICANN policy and domain registration agreement, click on Buy domain.

Next, you'll receive two emails-- one confirming your purchase and the other prompting you to verify your email address. You'll want to verify your email right away so your domain doesn't end up in a suspended state. Note that it can take up to 48 hours for your new domain to start working, though it's often quicker. If you have an existing domain you'd like to connect to your Shopify store, you can also set it up from the domains page of your admin.
