[MUSIC PLAYING] It's time to do a test order to ensure that your customers will have an enjoyable experience buying from you. I'll show you how to do that and then do one final audit of your store to ensure that everything is working before going live. Here we are in the Shopify admin. We're going to place a test order together. Placing a test order ensures your checkout process is working correctly and that you've set up order processing, inventory, shipping, and taxes correctly.
0:31
The first thing that we need to do in order to place a test order is choose a plan. That will unlock the checkout and make it possible for customers to actually purchase something from you. So I'm going to go ahead and click on Select a plan. Here you'll see the three different options that Shopify has available for pricing for your online store. Because I'm just starting out, and I'm not sure how many sales I'm going to get yet, I'm going to start off with the lowest price plan, which is the basic Shopify plan.
1:06
You can see below how much you'll be charged for credit card fees and how many staff accounts I'll get. So I'm going to go ahead and click choose this plan. And then from here, I can choose how often I want to be billed. I can do it either monthly, every one year, two years, or three years.
1:29
And you'll see the various levels of savings that you get for each of those plans. I'm going to go ahead and choose monthly for now and click Confirm changes. You've got to enter your password here. And there you have it. I've successfully chosen a plan. So the next thing I need to do in order to get set up for a test order is make sure that Shopify payments is setup for purchases.
1:56
Shopify payments will allow you to avoid additional transaction fees. See the link in the notes below about pricing to learn more. So to set up Shopify payments, I click on Settings in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Then I click on payments. The first thing you'll need to do to set it up is click on this button here that says complete account setup. From there, you'll be asked to provide some additional banking information.
2:20
So you can go ahead and do that now. Once that's complete, to place a test order, we click on the Edit button. And then select Use test mode. In order to place the test order, you're going to need to grab a fake credit card number from the help dock that's linked to right here. So click on Learn More about test mode to do that. And it will open up the tutorial with the card numbers that you're going to need.
2:46
Once you've clicked on that checkbox, make sure you click on Save. OK. The settings have been saved. Now, I'm going to click on this eye button right beside the online store sales channel. And that's going to open up my store. I'm going to choose a product to purchase. I'm going to go with my Chana Masala seasoning.
3:10
I'm going to add it to the cart and then click checkout. So here you can add in customer information. I'll add in my information here. Here, as you can see, we've set up Shopify shipping. So I have three different options for shipping. I'm going to go ahead and choose the Canada Post Expedited Parcel and click Continue to payment method.
3:42
And so this is where I'm going to input the fake credit card information. So if I go back to that tutorial and scroll down, the instructions are listed right here. So I'm going to click on-- or I'm going to copy the visa credit card information, type it in here, put in my name, the expiry date, and then click on Complete order.
4:25
And it was successful, which is great. If you go back to your admin, you should now see the test order in the Order section of your admin. You can click on the Order number to open it up and see the details of the order. Remember to go back to the payment setting page to take your store off of test mode before you go live. If you aren't eligible for Shopify payments, you can do a test order using the bogus gateway.

Check out the tutorial in the notes section below. After you've done a test order and you feel confident, it's time to go live. Join me in the next lesson to officially be in business. [MUSIC PLAYING]
