[MUSIC PLAYING] In this lesson, you'll learn how to set up a branded shoot. You've learned that you have the option to shoot with a cell phone, a point-and-shoot, and a DSLR. We're going to use the same setup with the overhead that we did for the socks. But now, we're going to get creative by just changing out the background and the different props in the shot. So let's go ahead and get creative and get shooting. You can tell that it's basically the exact same setup.

But I switched out with a wood background. Let's go ahead and take a shot and just kind of see what the resulting image is. So here's the image. When the camera's set up overhead like this, it doesn't know how it's oriented. So you have to give it a bit of a rotation. So I'm going to go ahead and just rotate it. And I'm not really liking the color of what's going on here. So I'm going to go ahead and go into the develop menu and just kind of start editing this.

You can already tell it's already looking a little bit more interesting. So I'm going to go ahead and take this white eyedropper and I'm actually going to go into the S here, which is supposed to be white, and take a white balance. And you see that warms it up a lot, maybe even a little too much. And if it's too warm, if it's too orange for your eyes, you can go and pull back just a little bit. And give it a little bit there. I'm also going to try and just wiggle these adjustments a little bit until I find something that I like.

You like that? That's looking all right? One thing that I want to show you is how to do a localized adjustment. So this is starting to get a little bit advanced. But if I go into this mode here, you can tell I've got a similar set of developed modules here. And so what this one does is a gradation. And there's lots of different localized adjustments that you can learn how to use. So let's go ahead and just add one so you can kind of get an idea of what these adjustments will do.

And you can tell, I'm just kind of making it a little bit darker on the bottom. So that's fixing that kind of brighter part down there. I'm also going to warm it up a little bit just to kind of fix it, make it a little bit more even. There. So that was easy. And I've just introduced you to a new tool. So this is looking pretty good, right? Our socks; they look like they're in focus.

The wood background makes it a little bit more of a lifestyle image. And we could maybe use this on our branded categories page, maybe to introduce socks, maybe we could use this on our Instagram. One thing that I want to note is flat lay overhead is kind of an interesting style. And it's really fun. And you see a lot of photographers shooting in this style overhead and getting really creative with the arrangements.

If you look on Instagram and do a search for flat lay, you're going to find a lot of really inspirational images to kind of get you excited about this. And they're using window light to do it. Let's get a little bit more advanced and creative with this shot. So you can see we have a couple props here that we can work with. We have these leaves that I just kind of pulled off a ficus. So I'm going to go ahead and add these in.

I'm just going to kind of guess where they might be kind of cool. Maybe here. Maybe at the same three corners. Let's go and take a shot. And I've got to give it a rotation. And already that's looking kind of more interesting.

Again, I'm going to shoot, look, and evaluate. So I think I actually want to kind of move this little ficus leaf off the product a little bit so it's a little bit more-- a little bit better. And then it's kind of overlapping here. Maybe let's just keep them off. Let's have it so it's kind of going out of frame. I'm just having fun now. Again, I'll give it a rotation.

I think that looks a lot better. Let's go ahead and add in one more thing. I have some Shopify letters here. Let's go ahead and add these letters to our socks here. This might make it a little bit more fun. Mm, is this how I want it?

Let's just take a shot and see if we like this. Not so bad. Maybe we'll straighten up some of the letters and do it in one more shot.

And then we'll call it good. I like how it follows the contour of the sock, gives it a little bit of a whimsical look. All right.

I think that's pretty good. I want you to notice, this didn't take any special talent from me to do this. I'm just using the window light. I'm just going overhead. And I'm really just having a lot of fun with the props, and the ideas, and just things that I'm finding around me. You can just go into your attic and find some interesting props to maybe just throw into your photos to make it a little bit more interesting. So to end, I guess, I just want to say, remember that branded shoots can be a little bit challenging, but they can be done.
